Completeness Templates enable your team to define and track what "complete" means for a product in your PIM. By surfacing overall completeness and specific data gaps Completeness Templates empower teams to proactively improve data quality and guide product readiness for several use cases such as internal publishing or market launch. Only PIM Admins can create or edit Completeness Templates.
In this article, you'll learn how Completeness Templates work and how to set them up.

Overview
Completeness Templates allow you to:
- Define what makes a product "complete" for a given context (e.g. Launch readiness).
- Apply those definitions only to relevant products.
- Track and display the current completeness score (0% to 100%).
- Surface which conditions are not yet fulfilled.
- Trigger updates when product data changes.
Each template is composed of:
- Applicable Product Conditions: Define which products the template applies to.
- Data Elements: Define the data requirements for completeness.
- Thresholds: Map custom score segments (e.g.Incomplete/Partially Complete/Complete) for visualization and filtering.
Create a Completeness Template
To create a new Completeness Template:
- Navigate to Completeness Templates under Configuration.
- Click Create Template.
- Provide a meaningful Name (e.g. "Launch Ready for Food Ingredients") and optionally a long description..
- Set threshold values and labels.
- Optionally, configure Applies To for applicable product conditions
- Leaving this blank makes the template global (applies to all products).
- Configure the Template with the data elements that define completeness for this metric.
- Choose status: Draft or Active.
- Click Save.
Note: Only templates in Active status will calculate scores and be displayed
Define Applicability Conditions
Applicability conditions determine which products the template applies to. All conditions must be true for a product to qualify.
Supported condition types:
- Attribute value = X: Only List-type attributes
- Category link is below X: Core or custom categories
Tip: Leaving this section empty applies the template to all products.
Define Completeness Data Elements
These define what data counts towards a product’s completeness score
Supported condition types:
- Has value for attribute X
- Has a document of type X
- Has a category link below X
Each fulfilled condition contributes equally to the completeness score.
If completeness requires just one of several data elements, you can create an either/or group. Within a group, having just one of the data elements populated satisfies the conditions. Having more than one does not further increase the completeness score. An example may be to require just one of EC Number, CAS Number, or Chemical Family.
Parent & Variant Attributes: Only parent attributes are selectable. A condition is fulfilled if the parent or any of its variants has a value.
Set Thresholds
Each template must define three score segments: a lower segment, a middle segment, and a high segment.
- Example:
- 0–50%: Red / Incomplete
- 51–90%: Yellow / Partially Complete
- 91–100%: Green / Complete
Threshold values and labels are configurable per template.
These are used for:
- Visualization in the UI (e.g. color coding)
- Filtering by status (e.g. show only Incomplete products)
Tip: Setting the High threshold to “100%” means that all data elements are required for a product to be considered “Green” and is a good way to use a completeness scores for mandatoriness. For other cases, incl. below-the-fold type data, a lower score, such as 85% may be considered “complete”.
Evaluating Completeness
Completeness is evaluated automatically when a product is edited for any template of status “Active”
- Scores are stored and visible on:
- Product grid (as a column)
- Product details page
- Scores display:
- Percent value (e.g. 74%)
- Status label (e.g. "Partial")
- Color indicator (e.g. Yellow)
Simple Analysis: On the product details page, you can view which data elements on the template are missing on this product, which can be used to take actions to fix the data gaps.
Note: When product data is changed, the score is not immediately updated in real time. Instead a visual cue will indicate that a score is not yet up to date. Once recalculation happens, the score will return to the normal state.
View and Filter Completeness Scores
On the Product grid you can:
- Add completeness score columns (per template)
- Save them as part of a Saved View.
- Filter by:
- Completeness Template name(s) and the score segment(s) (e.g. show all "Red" products for "Launch Readiness"), or alternatively filter to only products that this template applies to
Filters for completeness templates are added from the “Add Filter” and “Completeness” tab.
Best Practices
- Use multiple templates for different contexts (e.g. "Internal Use", "Launch Readiness", “EComm”).
- Start simple: Define a small number of high-impact conditions first.
- Avoid overly complex templates; limit to clear, actionable conditions.
- Regularly review scores to detect regressions or stalled improvements.
