Manage Attributes and Attribute Groups

Create custom attributes and attribute groups to tag records based on your business’ organizational needs. 

For example, you may want to create custom attributes such as an internal product code, business unit, and product manager name since these might be relevant to your internal organization needs. 

To configure custom attributes and attribute groups for your products, navigate to the Attributes tab. To learn more about attributes, click here

  1. Navigate to Attributes under the Configuration dropdown in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Navigate to the Attributes tab in Attribute Library 
  3. Click Create Attribute on the top right corner 
  4. Enter the following fields such as Attribute type, Attribute Name, and Attribute Group 
  5. Toggle Alternative Values Per Catalog or Alternative Translations if applicable 
    1. You can configure settings for your attribute that allows the attribute to store variable values per catalog, or support alternative translations.
    2. When “Allow Alternative Values Per Catalog” is toggled on, the attribute will support alternative values per catalog 
    3. When “Allow Alternative Translations” is toggled on, the attribute will support alternative translations
  6. Click Save

Allow Alternative Values Per Catalog Settings 

You may want to allow your attributes to support alternative values for certain attributes.

For example, a US-based team may have a description for a brand such as, “We ship across all of Northern America!” while a Europe-based team may have a brand description such as, “We ship across Europe!”

Allow Alternative Translations Settings 

You ​​may want to allow translation values for business needs, since a product can be sold in multiple languages across multiple regions.

For example, the attribute color and its values white, red, and black may need to store a translated version in French for your French-European based team.

To create a new custom Attribute: 

Note: Toggle settings are not updatable once an attribute is configured.


To create a new custom Attribute Group:

  1. Navigate to Attributes under the Configuration dropdown in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Navigate to the Attribute Groups tab Attribute Library 
  3. Click Create Attribute Group on the top right corner 
  4. Name your new Attribute Group 
  5. Click Save

For example, you may now want to create a custom Attribute Group called “Internal Organization”. Now, you can group custom attributes such as internal product code, business unit, and product manager name together in an organized manner.

 

Manage Category Trees

Categories are tags that you can add to a product record to classify a product. Category hierarchical levels are determined within a category tree by adding new categories. To create a sub-category, add a category under an existing category.

Category Trees are used to organize products in a flat or hierarchical structure. Categories must be created under a category tree.

Feel free to use Knowde’s standard market and technology category tree, but if you already have a custom internal naming system then feel free to create your own category tree so you can tag products to markets and industries that reflect your internal tagging structure.

For example, you may want to create a category tree using your internal names for your market segments and industries.

To create a new category tree:

  1. Navigate to Category Trees under the Configuration dropdown in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Click Add Category Tree on the top right corner
  3. Name your new tree 
  4. Click Create

To add new categories under an existing tree:

  1. Navigate to Category Trees under the Configuration dropdown in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Select the Category Tree you want to add new categories to 
  3. Click Add Category on the top right corner
  4. Name your new category
  5. Add any translations
  6. Click Add

To add subcategories under a category

  1. Navigate to Category Trees under the Configuration dropdown in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Select the Category Tree you want to add new subcategories to 
  3. Navigate to the + icon on the right of a category you would like to add a subcategory to 
  4. Name your new sub-category 
  5. Click Add

 

Add Languages

To add languages:

  1. Navigate to Languages under Configuration in the left hand navigation bar
  2. Click on the edit icon on the right 
  3. Select the languages you want to be available for translation
  4. Click Save

Knowde currently supports the following languages:

  1. English (UK)
  2. English (US)
  3. French (CA)
  4. French (FR)
  5. Portuguese (BR)
  6. Spanish (ES)
  7. Italian (IT)
  8. Portuguese (PT)
  9. Spanish (MX)
